"So far, I love this machine" 2010-03-24
By Karielk (Western Washington)
I have been sewing since 1969 or so. I have done a lot of sewing, had a number of different machines. My last purchase was a Euro pro. It sews pretty well, but very hard to get parts. I wanted another machine so my daughters and I can sew together. Price was a factor, and I did a lot of investigating different machines and decided on this one. So far, I am well pleased. I have played around with the different feet and designs. I am very pleased with the button holes and how easy they are. (I can remember my first buttonholes many years ago)

I am a bit disappointed in how much plastic parts there are now. But I am seeing that on most the machines.

I am enjoying the feature to use the buttons on the machine for start/stop and speed control. I love the needle threader as well as the feature for the quick start bobbin. One thing I haven't tried yet is heavier fabric such as denim.

I would highly recommend this machine for beginners or intermediate users. A lot of machine for the price.

Next day--I cut off some jeans and hemmed them, and even with a 16 needle this machine wouldn't go through the doubled side seams of the jeans. A lot of machines I have used over the years had this problem as well. This is the only thing I have had trouble with so far. But it sewed the regular denim just fine.

"Side Cutter II Sewing Machine Foot Attachment" 2009-01-17
By L. Laster (OKC, OK USA)
This is a wonderful product for LIGHTWEIGHT sewing! I happen to use it on very sheer nylon for grooming smocks, so it converts my straight shanked Brother and Singer machines into sergers very easily. I know Singer has a heavier duty side cutter and plan to purchase it for future heavy weight sewing, but for now, this is the product that I will be using. You will need to read the instructions in order to get it to work the first time as I just expected it to go to work automatically. NOT! It's wonderful for the price for lightweight materials and I would recommend it for the hobby to advanced sewer who does not want to purchase a serger right away.

"Not what I expected" 2009-10-25
By Peppermint Pattie (Warner Robins, Ga)
This machine performs as advertized as far as power goes. It will breeze through thicker layers of fabric. The thing I do not like about it, is that critical parts are not metal, but plastic. The lever that raises the presser foot broke the first time I tested it out. When the needle clamp broke recently, I discovered that it is not metal either. C'mon...it is a commercial machine. What good is a powerful motor if the parts are plastic inside?

"a good starter machine" 2010-03-26
By Laura Sterner (midwest)
I've owned this machine for about 6 years now and have been surprised how well it has lasted. For a cheap little machine it sews really well and keeps on sewing.
Pros: Reliable and easy to use, does a remarkable range of things- straight stitch, zig-zag, darning, blind hem, buttonhole, and maybe a few more things I'm not thinking of right now.
Cons: It is slow, the speed is frustrating for me. The stitch lengths are preset and you get to choose one of three, ditto the zig-zag. Not adjustable anywhere for anything. No handle to carry it.
Overall a nice lightweight machine that works well. I'm teaching my daughters (ages 8 and 11) to sew with this machine, and they are enjoying it.

"TROUBLE WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!" 2009-07-09
By F. Phillips
This machine has a variety of problems, the maachine is making the bobin break and the tension happens very often.....It is slow and gets tangled very easily.Threading it is confusing. One day i was sewing along and the whole bobin holder just feel right apart. I do not recommend that u get this machine. If i could return it i would but of course it was broke so i was unable to return it.... it is not an easy starter machine and it would be really hard to teach yourself on!! Please listen to this comment i dont want to put all of you through as much trouble as i went through.

"A Reliable and Portable Machine" 2009-05-17
By K. Walkenhorst (Pittsburgh)
I received this machine as a gift 7 years ago, and have since sewed everything from cardboard, denim, upholstery fabrics, quilts, paper, etc on it, and it is still chugging along! It's wonderful because it's fairly lightweight and medium sized, so it's easy to transport. It's also very easy to learn on, I taught myself how to use it and had sewed very little previous to using this machine. It has three straight stitches and seven variations of zig-zag stitches, as well as settings for making a buttonhole; new machines have way more settings for different stitches, but I've learned to do a lot of creative things just with this amount. If you are a really serious sewer you may be interested in a fancier machine with more options, but this one is wonderful if you are okay with limited stitch options. Replacements for needles and the light bulb have been easy and inexpensive. I've recently been learning about how to reset the tension, and this has been the first time it's given me any issues. Read the whole manual before you begin using it, it will make you a better sewer and teach you how to take care of your machine so it lasts longer. I would definitely recommend this machine.

"Sturdy basic sewing machine, great for free quilting and mending" 2010-05-19
By Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA)
The Janome Magnolia 7330 is a "beginner's" sewing machine, according to some sewing forums, but my feeling is that it really is a workhorse that does most things an average sewist or quilter wants to do, and while it doesn't have all the features of a very expensive model, it delivers sturdy performance and enough bells and whistles to make it my new favorite "go-to" machine.
What it looks like:
The Magnolia line is an affordable line of machines including sergers. The 7330 is the top of this line and competes with the Decor models (such as the 2010) and the Threadbanger TB30. It is larger than the Gems (used for schools and portability) and smaller and less feature-rich than the Memory Craft and higher Decor models. What this all means is that if you are looking for a basic machine that does everyday tasks and quilting, this is a good machine at the right price point. What you will need to decide is how many extras you need based on your sewing tasks. The machine has smooth lines--a sewing table with rounded edges covers the free arm and contains an accessory box. The machine is a warm white, and the front has a couple of flowers as decoration in yellow and pink. I like more serious-looking designs and even the goth style of the Threadbanger, but the Magnolia had some features that made me choose it over the TB-30. The weight is about 15 pounds and can be carried with a built-in top handle. No case comes with the Magnolia; you can choose to add a hard case top, but you also might use a padded tote if you go to sewing classes or events.
Features:
The best feature, and the one that had me choose the 7330 over the DC2010 was the auto start-stop. This is a way to sew without the foot pedal. I had started sewing and was sewing until recently with a knee-lever. The coordination of foot up and down while moving fabric if you are quilting is not as easy as either a knee-lever or no pedal or lever at all. It's one less movement to coordinate. To use the hands free, you choose a top speed with a speed push bar on the front, and press START. The machine ramps up to your chosen speed and you can move fabric (for freestyle quilting) or just pay attention to the fabric as the feed dogs move the piece through. There is a needle up-needle down button; it has memory meaning you can press needle-down and every time you stop, the needle remembers its start position (up or down.) For quilting, again, this is fabulous. If you are stitching a design, you can simply stop, have the needle drop down and you can pivot on the stitch. You can handle this by hand on any machine, even a treadle, but you have to REMEMBER to drop the needle before pivoting, The needle memory and foot-free operation were what I really wanted most, along with good buttonhole variation, so this made the 7330 a top contender. There is also a needle threader; handy if you wear bifocals. There are 30 decorative and utility stitches (the DC2010 has 50, including heirloom stitches, fyi.) There are six buttonholes including standard dense, keyhole, stretch (for knits), hand-stitch look (like hand buttonhole stitch), laddered and rounded. The buttonhole uses a button sensor; plug a button into the back of the buttonhole foot, drop down the sensor lever and the hole will be the right size for your button. One feature on the Magnolia that was NOT on the TB30 Threadbanger (which is quite similar in all other respects) is a darning stitch that uses the buttonhole foot. While you can drop the feed dogs in both machines and darn freehand, this quick mending feature decided me against the nice decorative stitches and easier front panel of the Threadbanger. The machine will punch through 4 to 6 layers of tee shirt material (I tried this) but I am not sure how well this will do on layers of denim, even with a sturdier needle. Generally, machines such as the Magnolia cannot handle multiple layers of heavy canvas or denim but I have a "gut" Elna that can pound through nearly anything.
Negatives:
Few accessory feet come with the 7330. Only a satin stitch foot, regular presser foot, a zipper foot and a buttonhole foot. If you need a stitch-in-the-ditch guide foot, a hemmer, ruffler, walking foot or other fancy foot (piping or cording foot, pintuck) you have to pony up extra. The button sewing feature was a bit difficult to use compared to my Elna 1010. You push a button under the satin foot (has a space underneath), direct the needle to the left hole while using the zigzag stitch, adjust stitch width to the right to hit the right hole and then zig on slow for about 10 stitches. I found it almost impossible to position a small shirt button that had a more rounded rim than a standard flat shirt button. An open-toe foot may solve this. There are no fancy heirloom stitches beyond the useful blanket stitch and herringbone and a pretty leaf, star and scallop or two. No ladder stitch or eyelet or Parisian stitch. If you like heirloom sewing on linens, you have to move up to the DC2010 and give up the foot-free stitching, or go to the next level of machine with better feed system and--pay fifty percent more.
Summary:
For free quilting, home mending and standard home garment and decorative sewing, the Magnolia 7330 has a lot of bang for the buck. It is almost indistinguishable from the slightly more expensive TB30, and has features that are absent from the bottom of the Decor line 2010. For the price point, this is a great machine for average sewing and the foot-free features make this more efficient and easy to use.

"Janome 7330 Magnolia Sewing Machine" 2010-03-22
By Rosie Matula (New Jersey)
Got this machine after reading several reviews on sewing machines just trying to pick one that I thought would be great for me. I've had brother and singer machines before but always had some problem develop fairly shortly after getting it. Such as tension problems, loud when sewing, inconsistent length of stitches when sewing. The machines are all manual so I decided to try a computerized machine. This machine is defintiely quieter, is easier to use with it's one button push to get the stitch you want, and the stitching so far is consistant and smooth in my simple mending projects. I'm giving this machine a 4 star only because I want to use it on a bigger project before giving it a perfect score.

"Great machine for beginner sewer or quilter" 2010-02-24
By Amanda J. (Santa Clara, CA USA)
I bought this machine after doing a lot of research and I'm so happy I did! I sewed in high school but now 10 years later, I wanted to get into quilting. At first I set my budget at $200 but quickly realized that machines in that price range were not dependable. I didn't want a machine that would be more trouble than it was worth. The features I wanted were needle down, adjustable speed, and start/stop button. This machine has all 3. If I had a bigger budget, I would love a knee-lift, adjustable foot pressure, and thread cutter, but that will have to be for my "some day" machine. If your budget is $300-400, this is the machine for you!

"Great sturdy workhorse" 2010-02-19
By Darkenmoon (Chicago, IL)
I received this for Christmas and I love it. I would say my sewing skill is about intermediate. I wanted a machine that would be good for where I am currently, grow with me some, but also be affordable. After much research, this was the one I wanted. My mom surprised me with it. This was an upgrade from an old Singer Touch and Sew 600e. This machine won't ever be as sturdy as that baby, but it's a really nice replacement... and at any rate, I don't think any machine you'd buy these days would be that sturdy. However, this machine is AWESOME. The bobbin was easy to wind. It is easy to thread. It has memory of your needle position. This thing doesn't take fiddling and is extremely easy to work with. I like to make things like clothing, purses, little things like bags and eye pillows. I do a lot with my sewing machine and ask a lot. This machine really pulls through and does what I want without complaint or worry. I love all the marks on both sides of the food and needle to guide your fabric. It makes it SO easy. The fabric feeds very easily. One thing I found weird to get used to is that when you first press the peddle, the first few stitches go quite slow and then it will go up to speed. It's weird, but as I continue with it, I find it is also quite useful. I love this machine. I cannot stress enough how much I love it. It's fairly quiet. It's easy to set up. It's easy to use with a distinct lack of needing to fiddle with it. It's easy to select stitches and size of stitches. I really love this machine. I can't say that enough.

"Love it!" 2010-02-17
By A. J. Van Hal (ND, USA)
I purchased the Janome 7330 Magnolia sewing machine a couple months ago based on customers' reviews...in particular, the first review here caught my attention...I'm an experienced sewer, and this is my third machine...I'm very happy with it...it's very easy to thread...after reading the instructions about the various settings/buttons, I found it easy to operate. The stitches are nice; I didn't have to adjust the tension or anything. It comes with basic attachments/accessories, and there are quite a few additional accessories that can be purchased separately like a ruffler, darning foot, etc.

"adjustable binder foot" 2009-11-09
By Clever Designs (California)
Handy accessory to have for binding anything. The instructions are minimal though. I had to research the internet to find out exactly how to use this particular binder. The adjustable screw is very hard to use as it's very tight and close to the plate of the machine once it's attached. I practiced a lot before using it on the final item I was sewing. Over all, I like it and am glad to have it.

"Wish I had bought a new one" 2010-06-06
By Patricia Denney (Cedar City Utah USA)
I love this machine. The little lettering you can embroider with it, the lovely fancy stitches. It is easy to thread and sews well and I bought mine refurbished for $149 and it was false economy. For refurbished read used. The table I got with mine did not fit, the cover was filthy, non of the extras were included, the quilting foot, the 1/4 inch foot, the walking foot, the quilting guide or the eyelet punch. I have bought the extra feet which pushes up the price to $199. Walmart is selling this same machine but under the model number of SQ9000 with the front a pretty pink instead of blue and for $199 plus tax which makes it around $210. Less than $20 more but I would have had a perfect brand new machine and registered with Brother. Never again will I buy a 'refurbished' model even though I did finally get a replacement table and I cleaned the filthy cover.

"love it!" 2010-05-25
By Poodle_Mama (Baltimore, MD)
I love this machine! Light weight and more stitches a novice sewer, like myself, will ever need. Now if i just had the time to try all the stitches and embroidery.

My only complaints are that it does not handle layers of fabric well, even with a denim needle. I found if I put it on the lowest sewing speed it does much better. But I still sometimes get the Error message. The monogramming function is less then what I expected. The letters are small and too boxy.

The computerized stitching makes changing stitches a snap, and I have actually changed stitches while sewing the same project with no problems. It even tells you what foot you should be using, and automatically sets the width, and length. Or you can do it manually. The tension has yet to be a problem, it is easy to adjust. And the auto needle threader is great, once you get the knack of using it.

The XR9000 is great for a beginner like myself. The price for a refurbished one was within my budget, but If you can afford a new one in the box, go for it.

I wanted an embroidery machine originally, but they are so pricey. With the embroidery foot ,purchased separately, and a little practice, I think I'll be OK! Maybe I'll be able afford the Project Runway machine one day, the XR9000 is all the machine I need right now.

"TERRIBLE!" 2010-04-19
By
I bought this machine from a different site in February and with the snow I got it in March. Well by the second week it stopped working. The bobbion thread gets all tangles and locks up the motor. I called Brother and they were ZERO help. The worst part is that the machine broke in the middle of makign a crib set for my niece who will be born before my replacement arrives

 "A couple of issues...." 2010-04-15
By Montana Ro (NW Montana)
I loved this machine at first. It was smooth, quiet, and I love the speed control for applique.

My issues are:

Straight line sewing seems to be a slight problem. I have to fight a little to keep my fabrics feeding thru straight. It doesn't matter which feet I use, I change feet, thread, and needles according to what the manual says for whatever I'm sewing. If I wear my quilting gloves for regular straight sewing it's a little easier. But I never had to do that with my old machine.

My second issue is skipped stitches. This just started happening a couple of weeks ago, and I have done everything the manual suggested. I have cleaned the bobbin case (it was pretty dusty), I have made sure my needle is inserted properly and the machine is threaded properly. I make sure I have the right needle, foot, etc for what I'm sewing. It still skips stitches, even on my applique now.

Today I am going back to my old singer. I live in the boonies and it is a full day to drive to and from a place that can service my machine. I am going to call brother customer service and hope they will be able to help, but I do not want to pay expensive shipping or repair charges for an inexpensive machine like this. I may end up donating it to my trash can and buying the more expensive machine I wanted in the first place.

Bummer!

"Really Great Workhorse" 2009-11-09
By Lonia (VA)
I got this machine for Xmas last year after reading hundreds of reviews for different machines. I definitely wanted a manual sewing machine (after hearing/reading about lots of problems with the computerized), one could go through some heavy materials- particularly fleece, and wasn't horribly fussy to deal with. In general, it's easy to use and works really well. It's easy to thread normally (I can't figure out the automatic threader). Sometimes, as with most manuals, the needle will skip. You really need to listen for problems with the bobbin and stop as soon as you hear it. Sometimes the bobbin doesn't catch quite right and it gets itself tangled in the casing. If this happens, you'll have to really pull gently to get your project to move up enough to carefully cut the threads out. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. The only real complaint I have about it is the underpass under the arm is much too small to do any enormous projects (like a bedspread). If you buy the case with this, as I did, be aware that the case does not snuggly fit the machine and the machine can bounce around and some of the delicate metal parts on the top can bend. This happened once when I put it on the floor of my car to transport it to a friend's house to do some work. The piece bent back easy enough.

"A solid machine for home sewing" 2008-08-02
By Laurel (New York, New York)
Though the Brother XL-3510 wasn't my first choice in a machine (purchased out of a limited selection from an online retailer using a "store credit only" return policy, even for defective machines), after a marathon weekend of sewing medieval garb, I have found this to be a solid machine that handles a wide range of projects effectively and efficiently. With a drop in bobbin (SA156 is the Brother part number--same as their sewing/embroidery machines) that is oriented a little too much towards the right handed (I'm a left handed person), it's much easier to manage than the Europro I returned to the online retailer that uses a steel bobbin and bobbin case from the side. Threading is easy as well, though left handed people will have problems for a few times until you get used to the nuances of the threading. There are about 3 or 4 places that I found the machine difficult to manage as a left handed person. Sadly, as strong as Brother is, for both the industrial and home sewing markets, they have forgotten that both left handed and right handed people use the machines!! I really like the way the stitch selector dial works. Just like a shift key on a computer, you just put the outer dial on the red SS1 for the red row of stitches or the green SS2 for the green row of stitches--it's very user friendly. Normal stitches are neither red nor green--for things like straight or zig zag. Everyday stuff like back-stitching is easy (easier than many models) and the machine doen't balk at you when you want to go through a few thicknesses of fabric like pleats. As with any machine, you might have to coax it a little by a tug or two on a stubborn section through the feeders, but I've never known a machine that always could feed anything without a little help now and again. All in all, thie machine passes the test. It works very nicely and should be a great addition to anyone's sewing room. I'm not an expert seamstress, but I've sewn to some degree since I was six and used many many machines along the way. This machine was a good buy--but for the future I will ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT before buying ANY MACHINE--it really DOES MATTER WHO YOU BUY FROM AND WHAT THE RETURN POLICY IS. READ THE RETURN POLICY--EVERY WORD--BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING--THIS IS EXTRA IMPORTANT FOR SEWING MACHINES.
This is a great machine. I didn't buy mine on amazon. I really wish I did.

"It's a pleasure not a chore to sew now!" 2010-08-10
By cls
First, let me say I haven't sewed in about 25 years. I decided I wanted to get back into sewing, but not on my 35+ year old machine. I had a couple of "must-haves" on my requirement list: 1) Automatic needle threader 2) a machine with a manual tension adjustment 3) a machine that isn't always jamming.

I also thought I'd like an electronic model with a few utility stitches, and maybe a push button start/stop instead of having to use a pedal. I knew I didn't want a Singer or a Brother machine. Well, I got everything I wanted - and thought I wanted - in this Janome AQS2009 model at an excellent price. I absolutely love this machine. It's so quite to run, has a bright light, fills the bobbin evenly, has a sewing speed control, and a needle up/down setting, free arm, it's small and lightweight, and the automatic needle threader is the best thing since sliced bread. Oh, and it has a 25 year warranty.

The stitches are a very nice quality on this machine, regardless of the thickness of material you're sewing. I've already sewed 6 layers of material (fabric and bias tape) together with this machine, and the stitches were perfect. The fact that this machine is a 3/4 size model was a plus. I intend to take some quilting classes, and at 12 lbs. this machine will be easy to tote back and forth.

You might have trouble finding accessories for the AQS2009, but since this machine is a duplicate of the retired Janome Jem Platinum 720, finding additional feet, etc. is a breeze. Oh, one last thing... I thought I didn't receive the buttonhole foot, but I found it inside the extension table (the part you remove to expose the free arm) so make sure you look for it there.

"Biggest Disappointment" 2009-09-08
By A. Chen (Mission Viejo, CA)
I know how to use a real sewing machine but don't have the space for one so was super excited about this thing. I was hugely disappointed and frustrated. I am certain I got the thread through all the proper loops and tightened/loosened all the right areas but it simply would not make a stitch. It only makes holes in the fabric! ARGH!!!

"Absolute Junk. Buyers Beware!!!!!!!!" 2006-08-01
By S. Ellis (Southern California)
I bought this item and it never worked. It made this pathetic little whirring noise like it was trying to , but just couldn't. It was flimsy, cheap, and a couple metal pieces were starting to rust. Keep in mind that I bought this new. The knob on the side fell off on first use to. Don't waste your money. I wouldn't buy this even at a dollar store!

"Good price, good quality, fast shipping!" 2010-08-10
By Rhia
I found this item to be at a great price! Other places sold it for much more than Amazon. The shipping cost was also reasonable. I received the item very quickly. I was a little disppointed because the instructions included with this item are vary vague and difficult to read. The pictures are small and not very detailed. However, I think the instructions are pre-packaged in the item so not necessarily a seller problem. I would just recommend searching for turtorial videos... I found quite a few on YouTube. This was a great help.
Be sure to practice before actually using this on a quilt. It's easy to learn!
Thanks for another great purchase!

I bought this free motion quilting foot for quilting the baby quilt (expecting baby next month). It was worth buying it. This is the cheapest I could get when compared to the one from sewing supplies store. It is very easy to work with once you learn how to handle. Worth buying.

"Terrible" 2010-07-29
By C. Harper
I was so excited to have this. It worked right out of the box on the small test fabric, but once I wound a bobbin with my own thread (which did not wind properly) and tried to run a few stitches the machine stopped working. It does not pick up the bobbin thread so it just pokes holes in the fabric. I checked everything possible, then went to the internet for help. Apparently, the issue is not me and no one seems to have the solution. A terrible terrible shame of a product and a blight on the name of Singer.

"Horrible Machine! Do Not Buy!" 2010-06-22
By E-C Porter (Columbia, SC)
This is a horrible product. I bought mine from Walmart and thought it would save me money by hemming my pants on my own. I didn't count on it costing me so much time that it would actually be more convenient to pay someone else to hem my pants. It worked a couple times really well and then I started making a baby blanket for my friend. The bobbin wouldn't thread. When I finally figured out how to shove a ruler underneath to make it catch the little needle mechanism, it has not stopped stitching altogether. I have seen so many reviews on how this machine is completely worthless and I wish I had seen them before I bought this one. I can't believe they still make this.

"got it on the cheap and love it" 2010-05-21
By erron
I picked up one of these suckers for significantly less than the price listed here, and I absolutely love it. It's finicky, but it's also ultra-portable and can run on batteries. If the foot pedal acted as a rheostat and not just an off/on switch, it'd get five stars.

"i like it!" 2010-03-31
By D. Mejia
so far i have really enjoyed using it! i did purchase a bobbin winder for my own convenience, and that does come in handy. however, i did use the machine to wind one bobbin and it worked okay for me. i use it to put finishing touches on things, love it <3

"it's not a good machine" 2009-12-04

It does not work for me either. I will return it to Target as soon as possible. Save some more money and buy a better one. I spent 6 hours today and broke two needles.

"A Sewing Center That Fits In A Sewing Machine Carrying Bag" 2010-03-24
By WanderingStar (Wherever I Park It)
I ordered this not really expecting much for such a low price. Was I ever mistaken!! This makes any table top a sewing center. It is well padded with very clear markings. Keeps my machine from sliding while sewing and reduces noise. The pockets are convenient for placing items in while working on a project. It folds and fits in my sewing machine carrying case for easy storage and to take along to sewing/craft classes. I was using a foldable compact ironing board to protect my table tops and corian counter tops. I can now rid my self of this space taking setup. This setup makes for an compact, lightweight setup that transports and stores easily. Not only a terrific solution for the fulltime RV seamstress and crafter, but also would work well in dorm rooms and small apartments.

"Two Issues" 2009-11-05
By Ice Man (North Idaho)
Strong mechanism. Two issues are: measurement conflicts on the design diagram, and in the initial break-in period the roller bearings will wear down the painted surface they travel against and the paint will chip off unevenly impeding the free travel of the mechanism without a little helpful push with your hand. Once all the paint is worn off it travels normally though. In general a good mechanism, but I hope it gets engineering updates.

"How Does This Set Up?" 2009-10-26
By D. L. Faries (Virginia)
Really, the manufacturer of this product is one of the few that make a sewing machine lift--and it is probably a wonderful lift, but there are no instructions or templates to show you precisely where it must be attached or how it works. Contacting the company didn't help much either--they don't have instructions but can send you to a website for a breakdown of the parts. I had to send this back and buy a sewing cabinet that already had one installed.

"Thread and fabric jams" 2010-02-22
By Sharee Johnson (Ely, MN)
I bought this machine from Joann Fabrics and returned it in less than a week. I sewed two fleece sweaters and had the thread jam in the first one. Not too bad, I was able to get the thread yanked out of the mechanism. But on the second sweater it actually pulled the fabric into the mechanism! I had to yank and tore a hole in the back of my garment. When I returned it to the store, the manager said she has the same machine and when it jams she just turns the bobbin around! My old machine is a 29 year old Kenmore with limited stitches and it has served me well for that time. Since this newer mechanical model had more trouble than my old machine, I decided to take the leap and purchase a computerized Brother model (PC-420). It's much more expensive, but I guess it's time to take the leap. Will let you know how it goes.

"Thread Eater!" 2009-12-07
By S. Brandt (Lee's Summit, MO United States)
I haven't been overly impressed with this machine. Unless you have a death grip on the starting threads, they will be pulled into the machine and lock it up. I found the foot patel very difficult to get use to. When I press down and it either sounds like the machine is having trouble starting up or goes 90mph and is hard to control. I've given it almost a month and just can't take it anymore. I'm taking this machine back tonight.
