Amazon.com Review
Sewing advances into the twenty-first century with this computerized free arm sewing machine from Brother. Simple to use, the sewing machine offers users a choice of 37 stitches, 21 of which are decorative. Utility, mending, quilting, stretch, and decorative purposes benefit from the machine's 77 stitch functions. The UL-listed machine further endears itself with an automatic needle threader, a thread cutter, and one-step bobbin replacement.
The 110-volt sewing machine uses an electrical foot pedal to control operation. Users select stitch styles from a computerized LED screen. An adjustable control allows manipulation of the thread tension, while a separate built-in control alters stitch width and length for varying projects. While only one needle comes installed in the machine, the machine accommodates twin-needle stitching. The sewer engages reverse operation manually. Five diverse one-step styles insert buttonholes, automatically sized, in garments. Accessories are stored in a built-in compartment. Users carry the machine on the provided handle for travel. As with any electrical devise, read the safety guidelines and instructions thoroughly prior to use. The manual offers English and Spanish texts. This item is covered by a limited 25-year warranty. The sewing machine measures 16 by 6-3/4 by 11-1/2 inches and weighs 11 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

"Nice for the price" 2009-09-28

I've had this sewing machine for 3 years, and it's still running well with casual use. It will occasionally jam-up, but haven't had a problem solving it yet. I've never had a major complaint about it, and still happy I chose it. I'd definitely recommend it for casual or beginner sewers.

"Expensive Door Stop" 2009-08-23
By Aaron Ciuffo (New Orleans, LA)
My brother ES-2000 sewing machine lasted for exactly one project. Near the end of the project, the thread became very tangled in the bobbin case; the machine beeped at me repeatedly and indicated an E6 message. I looked up the error code and untangled the thread. The machine was unresponsive so I power cycled it. It beeped for a good long while after being turned back on and then never did anything every again. Huzzah for cheap plastic crap!

So far Brother's "Support" department has not been very supportive. They've pointed me to their gee-whiz-awesome trouble shooting chart: Symptom - sewing machine does not work -> Possible Cause - You have not used the foot pedal correctly -> How to put it right - Use the foot controller properly. Thanks for that awesome advice! And here I thought I was supposed to work it with my tongue. Perhaps I can coerce Brother into replacing it under the so far under-whelming 25 year limited warranty. It appears that the warranty is limited to the original air in the box, however. Seeing as I've already misplaced the factory air, I'm pretty much boned on this one.

The light still comes on, but that's about all it can do. I have half a mind to rip it apart and salvage out the motor to build a vandegraff generator. At least I can (safely) shock my students with it. Until I decide to do something else with it, it does a great job propping open the door of my shed.

If I could give it a negative rating, I'd be all over that.

"Sewing Machine A Piece of Junk" 2009-08-14
By Poodle Mom (Ohio)
I bought this machine for my grandaughter and she had three machine sent to her because the first one didnt work, the second one didnt work and neither did the third one. She was able to get a return label for the first one but had to pay herself to send the other two back. The machines had the same problem and she even called the Brother Customer Service Center and they just kept sending her the same machines with the same problem. It wasnt until I said I would go to my credit card company for a refund on my money that a 4th machine of a different model was sent and it worked.I dont think she should have had to pay for sending any of the ones that didnt work back. This whole thing took over two months to get straight. It will be the last time I ever buy a Brother item.

I bought this sewing machine about 8 years ago for my wife as a gift. She LOVES IT!

Which says it all! She's taken up sewing more intensively - and can whip out a purse, and dress easily with this technological marvel. No qualms, great buy. Wife's happy which means i am too. :P
